A smile painted his expression, barely distinguishable in the dark of the room. “You’ve always been my weakness.”

The words were muttered against my mouth as he ravaged me. 

Guilt should’ve eaten away at our flesh as it meshed together. He slid into me as if he’d always belonged there, spreading and stretching me wondrously—painfully—a hurt so good my nails sank into his back as he took me once more.

We were reckless. 

Careless.

But once those hands brushed my body, it was like all trains of thought left the station. Replaced by insatiable need and hunger that only he could satisfy. 

“Harlan,” I started, knowing there was so much that needed to be said.

“Yes, peaches?”

“I, um.” The words were a seed barely sprouted, but I’d force them to the surface for him. “I…” 

A sharp knock split the silence. 

The words crashed in my esophagus as my heart lodged itself in my throat, furthering the collision. 

“Shit!” I hissed, forgetting everything but the fact that I was naked with a man double my age, in bed under the roof my father paid for. 

“Sweetheart?” My father’s voice sounded too close. The only thing separating us was the flimsy door that no doubt did little to mask any sound. “You okay?” 

“Yeah!” I called back, shoving Harlan, who sat like a lump on a log in bed, eyes wide, pulse point kicking in his throat. 

Jolting him out of the shock he’d drowned in, our breathing hitched as I flicked my eyes to the underside of the bed. Cliche, but it would have to work for now. 

With a thud, he crawled under the bed, still naked—which would’ve been comical were my heart not threatening to beat out of my chest. Kicking his clothes under the bed, I snatched the covers up to my chin, praying the comforter would hide my shaking hands. 

“What was that? Did you fall?” his voice was laced with concern, the knob jangled just once as the lock disengaged with the turn. “I’m going to come in.” 

Oh God.
